What are the classifications of cover tape?

Divided by cover tape width:

According to the width of the matched carrier tape, the cover tape is also divided into different widths. Common widths are 5.3 mm (5.4 mm), 9.3 mm, 13.3 mm, 21.3 mm, 25.5 mm, 37.5 mm, etc.

According to sealing characteristics:

According to the characteristics of bonding and peeling between cover tape and carrier tape, cover tape can be divided into three types: thermal cover tape (HAA), pressure-sensitive cover tape (PSA) and new universal cover tape (UCT).

1. Thermal cover tape (HAA)

The sealing of the thermal cover belt is realized by the sealing machine applying a certain temperature and pressure through the sealing presser foot to melt and press the hot melt adhesive of the cover belt on the sealing surface of the carrier belt. The thermal cover tape has no viscosity at room temperature, and it has viscosity only after heating.

2. Pressure sensitive cover tape (PSA)

The sealing of the pressure-sensitive cover belt is that the sealing machine applies continuous pressure through the pressure roller to make the pressure-sensitive adhesive of the cover belt stick to the carrier belt. Both sides of the pressure-sensitive cover tape have viscosity at room temperature and can be used without heating.

3. New universal cover tapc (UCT)

The adhesive force of the cover tape in the market is mainly controlled by the adhesive force of the adhesive.

However, when the same adhesive is matched with the carrier tape with different surface materials, the adhesive force will be different, and the adhesive force of the adhesive will also change under different temperature environment and aging conditions. In addition, the pollution of residual adhesive sometimes occurs during stripping.

In order to solve these specific problems, At present, a new type of universal cover belt is launched on the market. It no longer depends on the adhesive force of the adhesive to control the stripping force, but cuts two deep grooves on the base film of the cover belt through accurate machining.

During stripping, the cover belt is torn along the groove. The stripping force has nothing to do with the adhesive force of the adhesive, but is only affected by the groove depth and the mechanical strength of the film, so as to ensure the stability of the stripping force. In addition, only the middle part of the cover tape is stripped during stripping, and both sides of the cover belt are still bonded and left on the sealing line of the carrier belt, so it also effectively reduces the pollution of residual glue and debris to equipment and components.
